Prácticas terapéuticas en el contexto mágico-religioso de una población de migrantes paraguayos en el Gran Rosario (Santa Fe, Argentina)

Resumen

Desde un registro etnográfico, realizado entre 2010 y 2013, abordamos la situación de una población de migrantes paraguayos residentes en el área del Gran Rosario (Santa Fe, Argentina), para quienes el acceso a la atención sanitaria en el contexto de destino es un punto crítico contrastado con el de origen, que, al mismo tiempo, interacciona con el saber medicinal propio, basado en herboristería. Ello convoca un análisis de la atención y auto-atención de la salud que exceda el simple contraste entre lo “biomédico” y lo “tradicional”. Para lo cual especificamos algunas líneas de articulación posibles entre tales saberes dentro del marco mágico-religioso y valorativo de la población de referencia y respecto de su condición de migrantes. En particular consideramos los remedios utilizados y la noción de “origen” respecto de su circulación a través de la frontera. Finalmente, integramos tales reflexiones al contexto migratorio general considerado.

Therapeutic practices in the magic-religious context of a Paraguayan migrant population in the Gran Rosario (Santa Fe, Argentina)

Abstract

From a ethnographic register, made between 2010 and 2013, we analyze the situation of a Paraguayan migrant population resident in the area of the Gran Rosario (Santa Fe, Argentina), for whom the access to health attention in the destination context is a critical point that contrasts with the origin, and that, at the same time, interacts with their own medical knowledge, based on herbalism. That requires an analysis of the health attention and auto-attention that exceeds the simple contrast between “biomedical” and “traditional” references. In order to that, we specify some possible articulation lines among those types of knowledge inside the magic-religious and value context of this population and as regards their migrant condition. In particular we consider the remedies used and the ‘origin’ notion in regard to their circulation through the border. Finally, we integrate those ideas to the general migration context we consider.
